Job Summary

Our team of children’s research nurses deliver world-class care to patients participating in clinical trials across our NIHR Clinical Research Facility (CRF), Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and Clinical Research Network: North Thames. Some of our recent successes include the Summit plc trial, to which the first two global patients were recruited in the CRF. The CRF has supported a BioMarin Pharmaceuticals sponsored clinical trial that has led to the clinical development and approval of a drug called VIMIZIM as a treatment for Morquio A syndrome. These successes demonstrate the importance of the research nurse contribution in continuing to deliver high quality and complex clinical studies for paediatric and rare diseases.

Main duties of the job

As a skilled member of the team you will be providing a high standard of holistic, family-centred clinical care to children and their families participating in research studies. With support from the Senior Research Nursing Team, you will support the day to day running of a number of research programmes from a variety of different specialities. You will be responsible for the recruitment of participants, facilitation of the consent process, administration of the clinical interventions required as part of the study (e.g. non-intravenous medications, observing and responding to side effects (e.g. anaphylaxis), and ensuring the accurate collection and submission of data, in line with the study protocols and research regulations.

This post is 4 days a week 8-6pm shifts which may include late, night and weekend shifts depending on study requirements

  • Understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the Nursing Associate in context of the nursing and interdisciplinary team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development
  • Understands and acts in line with NMC professional standards for practice contained within The Code
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice
  • Understand requirements for NMC professional revalidation
  • Understanding of the importance of following procedures and treatment plans
  • Experience of working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team
