Carer Support Worker: Sponsorship Available

Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed Carer Support Worker to join our dynamic, professional and friendly team. This role is perfectly suited to someone with experience of working with carers of people experiencing difficulties with their mental health.

Based in the Early Intervention in Psychosis Team/Community Mental Health Team you will work closely with other members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, in leading the assessment and provision of support to carers, family members and significant others to enable their mental health and resilience to be optimised.

We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, enthusiastic individual who is committed to working with carers within the community setting.

Main duties of the job

As a Carer Support Worker you will identify carers coming into the service and will ensure they have been offered a Carers Assessment as per Section 75 delegated responsibility from the Local Authority.

You will lead on the completion and inputting of carers assessments, following the process through to payment where identified and keeping a track of those requiring annual reassessments.

An integral part of your role will be to ensure that the role of unpaid carers is recognised, supported and valued, ensuring that carers are well informed, supported with their individual health and well-being needs and involved in decision making about care in relation to their caring role.

You will provide carers with information and advice about services both within and external to the organisation, that contributes to their caring role and increases their knowledge regarding care and treatment processes. You will also signpost and facilitate carers access to a range of support services.

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • Education to A Level or equivalent. Alternatively, NVQ or QCF level 3 in Health and Social Care

Desirable

  • Carer awareness training Personal experience of Mental Health Services

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with people with mental health needs oExperience of working in a role that involves contact with families and carers

Knowledge

Essential

  • Have basic knowledge of the range of mental health problems, treatments and related procedures, to underpin the support that the role provides to carers
  • Have knowledge of the range of issues that affect Carers
  • Have knowledge of carers assessments and how/where to access them
  • Have knowledge of existing, new and emerging technologies and social media to engage carers to enable them to feedback about their experiences and to be involved and engaged in services.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of professional boundaries
  • Have awareness of policies and procedures in relation to confidentiality, information sharing, and safeguarding
  • Have awareness of equal opportunities legislation

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Care Act
  • Experience of working within the Triangle of Care initiative
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation / policies / procedures for carers
  • Knowledge of support services available for carers

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people including: service users, carers, other professionals, and members of the public
  • Have experience of working with a diverse range of clients with differing levels of needs.
  • Have experience of managing own caseload with requisite need for accurate and timely record keeping
  • Have the ability to balance a range of tasks with competing demands
  • Have some experience of leading on small projects, networking with a range of professionals and possess planning and organisational skills
  • Be able to manage challenging situations and behave in a professional manner
  • Be aware of the limits of their own competence, and responsibilities and know when to consult with others
  • Have a positive regard for carers and understand the importance of involving them in the service users care and recovery journey
  • Show commitment to one’s own professional development
  • Be motivated to work towards creating a safe environment for service users, carers, staff and visitors
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
