Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Healthcare assistant tojoin our friendly and dynamic team on Pelican Ward and Pelican Ambulatory.
Pelican Ward cares for children and young people with Dermatological (skin) and Rheumatological (joint and muscle) conditions. The ward also provides treatments for children with infectious diseases and some immunological disorders. Working with a number of specialities means that every day is different, and that there is lots of opportunity to learn new skills.
Pelican Ambulatory is a day care unit which cares for children and youngpeople within the same specialities but is open Monday to Friday only. TheHCA will be responsible for taking bloods, inserting peripheral cannulas and helping undertake patient assessments. The HCA will be a valued member of the team and support the overall running of the unit.
The successful candidate has the opportunity to work on both the ward and the day care unit, as the teams work closely together. This means that working patterns can be flexible and working patterns can be negotiated with the ward manager.
If you are currently competent in cannulation and venepuncture or would be interested in receiving training in this area of expertise, this role may be foryou.
Main duties of the job
To be able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. o To demonstrate effective communication skills. o To work within agreed ways of working, under indirect supervision of a registered health care professional (usually a Registered Nurse), following relevant standards, policies and protocols and always acting within the limits of your training and competence. o To exercise autonomy within your given area of responsibility, being accountable for your work and reviewing the effectiveness of your actions. o To demonstrate best practice and supervise others as required. o To follow and demonstrate the Trust Values, Expected Behaviours and Core Values of Compassion in Practice (NHS Commissioning Board Dec 2012), and adhere to the GOSH Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers (2013).
