4017 – NHS HealthCare Assistant Needed In Barnsley, United Kingdom

The role is a band 3 NHS Healthcare Assistant within a busy Ophthalmology department, working over 5 days with opportunity to work additional clinics. We run several clinics including medical retina, glaucoma, cataract, laser, intravitreal injection, general and emergency clinics.

Main duties of the job

As an HCA you will learn to check patients visual acuity, chaperone in doctors clinics, peform clinical observations, preparing clinic notes, learning and performing visual fields and OCT scans.

Experience

  • At least 6 months of care experience working in a health or social care setting.

  • GCSE Maths & English or qualified to equivalent Functional skills level 2 in Maths & English, or willingness to undertake.

Knowledge and Awareness

Essential

  • Confidentiality understanding of Information Governance
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety
  • Knowledge of clinical patient observations
  • Willingness to undertake competencies supported by clinical skills training and education to gain theoretical underpinning knowledge in a range of clinical interventions and use of test equipment e.g. blood glucose monitors, venepuncture, cannulation etc.
